En el majestuoso pueblo de Garachico en el Norte de Tenerife se celebra la 26 edición del FICMEC
El Festival Internacional de Cine Medioambiental de Canarias (Ficmec) se celebra desde el martes día 28 de mayo al domingo 02 de Junio en el municipio de Garachico.
En total, el público podrá disfrutar durante los seis días de esta edición número 26 de Ficmec, de cintas procedentes de 22 países, once largometrajes y ocho cortometrajes llegados de todas las partes del mundo los que competirán en su sección oficial.
El apartado ‘Ecoislas’ del Festival de Cine Medioambiental de Canarias contempla este jueves la proyección de tres títulos, firmados por Pedro Felipe Acosta, Pablo Borges y Pablo Vilas.
El Festival viene además acompañado por el concierto Bernegal, una experiencia que llega de la mano de la Agrupación Musical de Garachico, la Asociación Cultural Bengara, el cineasta tinerfeño Dailo Barco y la propia Filmoteca Canaria. El espectáculo incluye un concierto de fusión en el que se combinan temas folclóricos con los programas de las bandas de música municipales
Gastronomía, festivales, eventos, fiestas típicas y actividades.

Con ese propósito, desde 1984 se celebra la efeméride del Día de Canarias, que hoy aúna la identidad común de los territorios fragmentados de las ocho islas, realzando el valor de “lo canario”.
El Día de Canarias volverá a concentrar a miles de vecinos y turistas en los diferentes municipios de las 7 Islas Canarias para poner en valor las tradiciones y cultura popular de las islas en un ambiente lúdico y festivo. The cliffs of Los Gigantes, on the south west coast of Tenerife, represent one of the most spectacular and visited areas of the island, as well as one of the warmest.
These are impressive basaltic walls of volcanic origin overhanging the Atlantic Ocean, which vary in height from 300 to 600 meters and extend for 10 kilometres. The seabed at the foot of these cliffs reaches depths of 30-40 meters, allowing various endangered marine species such as fish eagles and large sea turtles to develop without risk.

In the village you will find many small shops, cafes and restaurants, and a small splendid black sand beach, Playa Los Guios, where it is possible to rent kayaks and stand up paddle boards or simply swimming and snorkelling in the crystal clear water surrounded by the astonishing cliffs of Los Gigantes.
We recommend you not to miss the sunset in Los Gigantes. Depending on the time of year you see it, you can watch the sun set in the sea or on the neighbouring island of La Gomera, or even at certain times of the year a very particular phenomenon happens: the sun seems to set well above of the horizon. This is because through the refraction of light we can see the sun setting behind the mountains of the island of La Palma, but not the island itself due to the high distance.

To top it all off, in the village of Puerto de Santiago/Los Gigantes every year is celebrated the oldest and most celebrated carnival in South Tenerife. It takes place in February one week after the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnivalwith celebrations and parades through the village that re-evoke historical costumes and traditions of the island.
You can get to Los Gigantes by public transport, and if you have a rental car, you can also reach the cliffs of Los Gigantes on your own by taking the TF-1 highway from the south.
